3 More DOMESTIKA COURSES
As I have had no formal art training, I decided to take three courses from DOMESTIKA that I felt would help enhance my surface decoration. Natural Landscapes by Pito Campos and Illustrating the Natural World by Sarah Stokes. Both courses were aimed at watercolour artists and clearly soaking my clay 'canvas' is not ideal. I needed to take onboard the techniques that would be transferable to using glazes and underglazes. It was my first year taken part in Art events hosted by Horsham Artists, so I decided I would make my first non-functional piece of pottery, a polyptych porcelain (because it is lighter) Pembrokeshire coastal scene! I will definitely be revisiting Pembrokeshire and taking inspiration to create another coastal scene. I can really see how the courses have improved my painterly application, as I revisited my wildflower bud vase but old and new are equally beautiful on their own right.
The third course was by potter Sarah Pike where she taught me how to make my own tessellating clay stamps, which really appeals to my mathematical side of my brain. However new to me this year I an going to investigate using these on red clay which contains more iron oxide, so when fired it plays games with the glaze outcomes!
